The men's lacrosse team hosted #5 Cortland today and dropped a 15-3 decision to the Red Dragons. Geneseo opened the scoring at the 44 second mark on an unassisted goal by Ray Ryan, but Cortland netted a pair of goals in the first quarter and five more in the second for a 7-1 lead at intermission. Cortland scored the opening goal of the second half before junior Jeff Watson fed classmate Brendan Kurpis to cut the lead to 8-2. After a pair of Cortland goals, senior Craig Lange scored on an assist from Kurpis on an man-down goal to complete the Geneseo scoring. The Red Dragons posted five goals in the final eight minutes to make the final. First year Ryan Zaremba made 16 saves and allowed 12 goals in 54:31, while Noah Berg stopped one shot and allowed three scores in 5:29 of play. Geneseo falls to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in SUNYAC and hosts Oneonta on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The women's softball team traveled to RIT this afternoon and dropped their final non-conference doubleheader of the season, 7-5 in game one and 10-1 in game two. In the opener, junior Molly Walsh was 1-3 with a run and an RBI, sophomore Jess Steubing went 1-3 with an RBI and junior KK Schaus was 1-4 with an RBI at the plate. Sophomore Katie Gallagher allowed five earned runs on 10 hits with three walks and six strikeouts in the circle. In the second game, senior Megan Pogemiller was 2-2 with a double and a run as the Blue Knights were held to three hits. First year Elise Porreca had one hit and Alexa Salzman got her first start in the circle, allowing 11 hits, nine earned runs and two walks with one strikeout. Geneseo falls to 16-16 on the season and travels to Oneonta on Friday.
