The Fredonia Blue Devils (26-7) scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning on a single, stolen base and throwing error to defeat the Geneseo women's softball team by a score of 2-1 in the SUNYAC Softball Tournament at Cortland this afternoon. The Blue Knights took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as sophomore Jane LePage walked, moved to second on a groundout by Lexi Williams and scored on an RBI single by Jess Steubing, who finished 2-4. Fredonia tied the game in the bottom of the first on a double and a two-out single. Senior Janine Montera took the hard-luck loss in the circle after allowing seven hits and one walk in 9 2/3 innings with one earned run and eight strikeouts.
On Friday, Geneseo was eliminated from the tournament by top seed Cortland (34-3-1), 9-1 in five innings. The Red Dragons exploded for five runs in the first inning on two hits and three Geneseo errors to take command early in the contest. Geneseo scored their lone run in the fifth inning when Stefanie Rosenberg led off with a pinch-hit double, pinch runner Kayleigh Troia moved to third on a pinch-hit single by Amy Levermore and scored on a fielder's choice. Montera allowed nine hits, three walks and three earned runs with three strikeouts as Geneseo finishes the season 19-19.
