The top-seeded and nationally fourth-ranked Cortland Red Dragons (17-1) completed the first half on an 12-3 run to take a 14-6 intermission lead on the way to a 23-8 win over fourth-seeded SUNY Geneseo in the semifinals of the SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse tournament this afternoon. Sophomores Lea Paris and Rachel Petrone and first year Emily Haggerty scored early in the game to give the Blue Knights a 3-2 lead, but Cortland took over the first half and cruised to the victory. Petrone finished with three goals, Paris and Haggerty scored twice each to pace Geneseo. Senior Casie Damore scored one goal and senior Anna Hutchings collected four draw controls. Cortland held Geneseo leading scorer Caroline Buonocore to just one assist on the afternoon. Senior Annie Smith got the start in goal and allowed 19 goals with three saves in 38:41, while Julie Bernatzky came on and stopped four shots and allowed three scores in 21:19. Geneseo finishes the season at 12-4, while Cortland plays the winner of #2 Buffalo State and #3 Brockport in Saturday's championship game.
