Senior Ian Mort (pictured left) scored the opening goal on an assist from Ryan Yurchak at 24:36 and fed Ken DiDonna for his first goal of the season at 43:10 to lead the Geneseo men's soccer team to a 3-0 win over host Clarkson this afternoon. Junior defender Rob Loccisano completed the scoring on a scramble in front at 55:53 and senior Sam Murphy made three saves to post his second shutout of the season. The Blue Knights are 2-0-1 on the season and travel to St. Lawrence on Saturday.
The Geneseo women's tennis team traveled to Oswego this afternoon and senior Monica Vieth (pictured left) won 6-0, 6-0 at first singles and teamed with classmate Julia Passik to win 8-1 at first doubles. First year Shiho Sato won 6-0, 6-1 at second singles and teamed with sister Kaho Sato to win 8-3 at third doubles. Geneseo won 6-0, 6-0 at third, fourth, fifth and sixth singles behind junior Katie Talbot, first year Amanda Rosati, junior Sarah Shields and Passik, respectively. Senior Reggie Connelly and Lauren Johnson combined to take an 8-0 win at second doubles. The Blue Knights are 2-0 on the season and travel to the William Smith tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
Sophomore Alex Wende (pictured left) combined 12 kills and two blocks, while classmate Ronnie Guszcza added 12 kills to lead Geneseo to a 21-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-16 win over Oneonta in the opening match of the Ithaca tournament. Sophomore Noelle Morrison had 32 assists and 16 digs, senior Kat Strickland added nine kills and three aces and junior Megan Reed contributed eight kills and two blocks. In the second match of the night, Geneseo defeated Widener, 28-26, 18-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-10. Strickland paced the offense with 10 kills, five blocks and three service aces and Morrison dished out 37 assists with seven digs. Wende collected 14 kills and junior Laura Galvin added 13 digs. Geneseo is 5-2 on the season and face Ithaca and St. John Fisher on Saturday in the winners bracket. The Widener box score was unavailable.
