Senior Anne Beinetti (pictured left) scored two goals to lead the Geneseo women's soccer team to a 5-2 win over #10 Eastern Connecticut on the second day of the Manhattanville Classic this afternoon. After giving up the first goal at 8:22, Beinetti scored unassisted at 11:58 and senior Melanie Rocchio converted a goal from senior Kelly Bergin at 31:04 to give the Blue Knights a 2-1 lead at the half. In the second stanza, Eastern Connecticut tied the game just 45 seconds into the frame, but Geneseo took command after the goal. Junior Shannon Spusta scored unassisted at 55:08 and fed Bergin for a goal at 67:38 for a 4-2 lead. Beinetti converted a corner kick by senior Bre Glynn to complete the scoring at 70:05. Sophomore Julia Sanger made two saves to post the victory in goal as the Blue Knights advance to 4-1-0 on the year. Geneseo travels to Nazareth College on Wednesday.
Senior Julia Passik (pictured left) won the C Flight Singles championship with an 8-6 victory over teammate Amanda Rosati to highlight the performances at William Smith's Mary Hosking Invitational. Rosati defeated teammate Sarah Shields by a score of 8-5 in the semifinals. In the B Flight doubles, Shiho and Kato Sato won the title with an 8-1 win over teammates Reggie Connelly and Zakiyyah Abdus-Salaam. Junior Katie Talbot won the B Flight consolation singles bracket after a first round loss, Connelly won the D Flight consolation bracket and first year Courtney Sokol reached the D Flight singles championship, where she lost, 8-3. Geneseo had three other first round winners who were defeated in the quarterfinals including Dexuan Yuan in the A Flight singles, Shiho Sato in the B Flight singles and Passik and senior Monica Vieth in the A Flight doubles. Geneseo travels to Brockport on Tuesday.
