Women's Field Hockey

Sophomore Katie Farley (pictured left) scored her second goal of the season by tipping a cross from the right side by junior Rachel Atkins inside the right post 5:11 into overtime to give the host Geneseo women's field hockey team a 2-1 win over Oswego (2-4/0-1 SUNYAC). After a scoreless first half, both teams scored in the initial five minutes of the second stanza. Geneseo took a 1-0 lead at 38:23 when sophomore Kayla DeAngelis scored her fifth goal of the year off the rebound of a shot by Bridget McGovern on a penalty corner. Oswego answered just 1:38 later on a penalty corner goal of their own as Aislynn Breslin crossed in the middle to Jess Felice. Oswego had a chance to win the game at 1:16 of the overtime on a penalty corner, but Atkins saved a shot off the line by Oswego's Kelly Collins that had gotten past Geneseo netminder Caitlyn Dowell, who finished with one save. Geneseo had 10 shots to four for the Lakers and the Blue Knights posted a 13-9 advantage in penalty corners. The Blue Knights advance to 4-1 on the season and host Cortland on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Women's Tennis

Senior Monica Vieth (pictured left) and senior Julia Passik won five straight games to take an 8-6 come-from-behind win at first doubles to springboard the Geneseo women's tennis team to a 9-0 win over defending SUNYAC champion New Paltz this afternoon. The Blue Knights took a 3-0 lead after the doubles portion as first years Shiho and Kato Sato won by a score of 8-5 at second doubles and seniors Lauren Johnson and Reggie Connelly won 8-2 at third doubles. The singles action was closer than the final score as it featured two match tiebreakers and two match-clinching set tiebreakers. Vieth won 6-4, 2-6 (10-7) at first singles and first year Dexuan Yuan won 6-2, 3-6 (11-9) at second singles in the two match tiebreakers. Shiho Sato and junior Katie Talbot won the set tiebreakers as the former won 7-5, 7-6 (5) at third singles and the latter won 6-2, 7-6 (4) at fourth singles. First year Amanda Rosati won fifth singles, 6-2, 6-2 and junior Sarah Shields took sixth singles, 6-2, 6-1. The Blue Knights are 4-0 on the season and host Oneonta on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Women's Volleyball

The women's volleyball team traveled to RIT for the Tiger Invitational today and split a pair of matches on the opening day. Geneseo dropped a tough 26-24, 26-24, 25-16 contest to New York University to begin the play. Sophomore Ronnie Gusczca posted eight kills and five aces, senior Kat Strickland totaled seven kills and first year Julia Gangloff (pictured left) dished out 19 assists. In the second match, Gangloff handed out 15 helpers with six service aces to pace the Blue Knights to a 25-20, 25-19, 25-23 win over Medaille College. Gusczca had seven kills, junior Laura Galvin contributed 22 digs and sophomore Noelle Morrison had 12 assists. Geneseo is 8-4 on the season and continues with the RIT Tournament on Saturday.
