Senior Melanie Rocchio (pictured left) broke a scoreless tie with 23 minutes remaining in the game by scoring at the right post on a cross from senior Kelly Bergin to help the Geneseo women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over visiting Westminster (Pa.) this afternoon. Geneseo controlled play throughout the game and held a 23-3 advantage in shots and a 10-1 lead in corner kicks. With 15:01 to play, junior Emily Novak collected the rebound of a shot by junior Shannon Spusta and put the insurance goal just under the crossbar for a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Julia Sanger was not forced to make a save in the game in posting her first shutout of the season. Geneseo moves to 6-1-0 on the year and travels to Fredonia on Friday.
Medaille College scored just 1:38 into the overtime session to send the visiting Geneseo men's soccer team to a 1-0 defeat. Geneseo had a 6-3 lead in corner kicks and a 14-10 shot advantage, but put only three shots on goal. Senior Sam Murphy made three saves in taking the loss in nets as the Blue Knights fall to 3-2-1 on the season. Geneseo hosts Fredonia on Friday at 4 p.m.
