Women's Field Hockey
Sophomore Katie Farley (pictured left) scored two goals and two assists to lead the Geneseo women's field hockey team to a convincing 5-0 win over visiting Morrisville (0-5/0-2 SUNYAC). Geneseo jumped out to an early lead as Farley assisted on senior Abby Sayler's goal just 44 seconds into the game and sophomore Kerry Hosford blasted a shot from the top of the arch on a penalty corner at 2:42 for a 2-0 lead. Farley picked up her second assist by feeding sophomore Kayla DeAngelis, who fired a shot from the left side for her team-high seventh goal of the season at 23:03 for a 3-0 lead at intermission. In the second half, Farley scored two goals in a three-minute span with Sayler assisting on the first goal. The Geneseo defense allowed no shots to the Mustangs as sophomore Caitlyn Dowell played 56:49 and classmate Nicole Zito played 13:11 in nets. Geneseo moves to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in SUNYAC and travels to Hartwick on Sunday.
Seniors Ian Mort and Colin Begy (pictured left) each scored a goal and an assist to lift the host Geneseo men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Fredonia (6-3-0/0-1-0 SUNYAC) this afternoon. After a scoreless first half, Mort found Begy in front at 50:10 for the opening goal of the game. The Blue Knight tandem struck again 20 minutes later when Begy sent a through ball between a pair of Fredonia defenders to send Mort in on goal for his team-leading fifth of the season. Geneseo held a 16-9 lead in shots as senior Sam Murphy made four saves to post his third shutout. Geneseo moves to 4-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in SUNYAC and hosts Buffalo State on Saturday.
Senior Anne Beinetti (pictured left) broke through the defense and scored the lone goal of the game at 3:20 of the first half to give the Geneseo women's soccer team a 1-0 win over host Fredonia in the SUNYAC opener for both teams. The Blue Knights outshot the Blue Devils by a 19-14 count and produced nine corner kicks to just one for Fredonia. Sophomore Julia Sanger made five saves to post the shutout in goal as the Blue Knights win their seventh straight game to move to 7-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in SUNYAC. Geneseo travels to Buffalo State on Saturday.
The women's volleyball team began the first round of SUNYAC round robin pool play with a 25-12, 25-23, 25-22 loss to the host Bengals. Senior Kat Strickland posted nine kills and junior Laura Galvin added 22 digs for Geneseo. In the second match of the evening, Geneseo responded with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-14 victory over Oswego. Individual highlights were unavailable. The Blue Knights are 10-6 overall and 1-1 in SUNYAC and continue with SUNYAC pool play on Saturday against Fredonia and Brockport.
