The SUNYAC West top seeded Geneseo Blue Knights defeated SUNYAC East #4 Plattsburgh by a score of 9-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2011 SUNYAC Women's Tennis Championships this afternoon at Manlius Tennis Club in Syracuse, N.Y.
The tournament is being conducted under the following rules:
1) Doubles will be an 8 game pro-set. At 8 all we play a twelve point tie breaker which is first one to 7 and win by 2 points.
2) Singles matches will be played to completion. However after the overall match is decided the following will apply:
a. Matches already in progress will be completed as follows. Any sets already in progress will be played using the standard format. All additional sets will be determined by playing super tie breaks (First to 10 and win by 2 points).
b. Any remaining matches that have not started will be played using an 8 game proset format. Twelve point tie break.
Geneseo swept the three doubles matches as seniors Monica Vieth and Julia Passik won 9-7 at first doubles, seniors Lauren Johnson and Reggie Connelly won 8-2 at second doubles and Shiho (pictured left) and Kaho Sato won 8-0 at third doubles.
In singles, Geneseo clinched the match with wins at fourth and fifth singles as first year Amanda Rosati won 6-1, 6-2 at fourth and junior Sarah Shields captured fifth, 6-1, 6-0.
In other singles action, Vieth won 8-0 at first singles, first year Dexuan Yuan won 8-2 at second singles, Shiho Sato captured third singles, 8-3 and junior Katie Talbot won at sixth singles, 6-0, 10-6.
The Blue Knights advance to Saturday's 1 p.m. semifinals to take on the East #2 seed Cortland Red Dragons, who were 9-0 winners over West #3 seed, Fredonia.
