The SUNYAC West #1 Seed Geneseo Blue Knights (11-1) defeated SUNYAC East #1 New Paltz by a score of 5-1 in the finals of the 2011 SUNYAC Women's Tennis Championships this afternoon at Manlius Tennis Club in Syracuse, N.Y.

The Blue Knights win their third SUNYAC title in the past four seasons and fifth overall (1998, 2001, 2008, 2009, 2011) to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III championship tournament in May, 2012.

Geneseo won two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead as seniors Monica Vieth and Julia Passik won 8-0 at first doubles and Shiho and Kaho Sato won 8-0 at third doubles. Seniors Lauren Johnson and Reggie Connelly dropped a tough 9-8 (7) decision at second doubles .

In singles, Geneseo clinched the match with wins at fourth, fifth and sixth singles as first year Amanda Rosati won 6-4, 6-4 at fourth, junior Sarah Shields captured fifth singles, 6-1, 6-1 and junior Katie Talbot captured sixth, 6-1, 6-2.

The other three singles matches were not completed.
