SUNYAC Women's Field Hockey
The top-seeded Cortland Red Dragons scored a pair of goals in the final 2:36 of the game to steal a 2-0 win over the visiting #4 Geneseo field hockey team this afternoon in the semifinals of the SUNYAC tournament. The Blue Knights controlled play throughout the match as they had 11 shots to 10 for Cortland and dominated the penalty corner opportunities, 9-4. The Red Dragons broke the scoreless tie on a deflection and added a rebound goal for insurance with 51 seconds left. Junior Caitlyn Dowell made five saves in taking the loss as Geneseo completes their season with a record of 10-10. Senior Abby Sayler and sophomore Bridget McGovern earned All-Tournament team recognition.
Men's Ice Hockey
Nationally second-ranked Oswego (4-1-0/2-0-0 SUNYAC) scored an insurance goal at the 12:41 mark of the third period in holding off the #12 Geneseo men's ice hockey team, 4-2. The Lakers opened the scoring at 12:20 of the first period, but the Ice Knights answered 1:14 later when sophomore Zachary Vit (pictured left) scored the first of his two goals on the night from classmate Rich Manley and junior Corbin Rosmarin. Oswego took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission with a four-on-four goal at 16:13 just after Geneseo failed to score on a 2-on-1 opportunity. In the second period, Oswego took a two-goal lead when a penalized player jumped out of the box and went in on a breakaway to score against Geneseo junior netminder Adrian Rubeniuk. Geneseo would pull within a goal after an Oswego turnover in the neutral zone when Rosmarin fed Vit for a wrist shot from the slot at 6:14. Rubeniuk made 46 saves in nets as Oswego won the shot battle, 50-22. Geneseo falls to 2-2-0 overall and 2-1-0 in SUNYAC and travel to Cortland on Saturday.
