The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) released the initial fall standings for the 2011-12 NCAA Division III Learfield Directors Cup and the Geneseo Blue Knights stand in ninth place of 111 scoring institutions with 134 points. There are approximately 440 institutions in Division III vying for Directors Cup points.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's NCAA Division III championship finish in up to 18 sports -- nine women's and nine men's.
Geneseo is ranked first of the New York State schools with a narrow lead over Cortland (10th with 132 points) and St. Lawrence (11th with 130.5 points). The Knights received 80 points for fourth place in men's cross country and 54 points for 12th place in women's cross country.
Four of the seven fall sports have been completed in the academic year-long competition with men's and women's soccer and football still to be determined. The next fall standings are scheduled for release on December 8, with the final fall standings released on December 21.
