The Geneseo women's basketball team traveled to SUNY Brockport tonight for the first round of the Wendy's College Classic and fell to the Roberts Wesleyan Raiders by a score of 76-71. Geneseo trailed by as many as nine points in the first half, but battled back to tie the game at 30 at the intermission. In the second half, Roberts opened with a 17-7 run to take a ten-point lead and extended to as many as 11 at 63-52 with 6:10 to play on one of their 12 three-point field goals. Geneseo cut the lead to five at 72-67 on a three-pointer by junior Melissa Graham with 46 seconds left, but the Raiders hit four of six from the line to seal the win. Roberts hit 12-17 from the arc and grabbed 44 rebounds to Geneseo's 41, including 19 on the offensive end. Graham led Geneseo with 18 points on 7-16 shooting with six steals, sophomore Lea Sobieraski hit 7-16 on her way to career bests of 15 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Katelyn Charbonneau added 11 points on 5-11 shooting and first year Shannon McGinnis chipped in with 10 points and six boards, including 7-10 from the charity stripe, where Geneseo was just 15-26 as a team. Senior Bri Dunton was 5-7 from the line on her way to seven points with seven assists, six rebounds and five steals. The Blue Knights fall to 2-1 overall and move to the consolation bracket, where they will travel to St. John Fisher to take on the Cardinals on Thursday at 8 p.m.
