The 12th-ranked University of Rochester Yellowjackets used a 15-0 run over four minutes in the second half on their way to a 72-60 win over the Geneseo men's basketball team in the first round of the Wendy's College Classic tonight at SUNY Brockport. In the first half, Geneseo battled back from an early five-point deficit to take a 34-31 lead on a three-pointer by Jordan Jones with 39 seconds remaining in the half. Rochester hit a bucket with three ticks left for a 34-33 halftime score. In the second half, Rochester opened with a 12-3 run to take a 45-37 lead, but Geneseo cut the lead to three points at 52-49 on a jumper by Jones with 8:40 to play. The Yellowjackets then hit four shots from long range over four minutes during the 15-0 spurt. Jones finished with 25 points on 7-14 from the field and a career-high 10 free throws on 16 attempts, while senior Abe Miller hit six of 10 shots from the floor and scored eight of his 12 points in the first half with six rebounds. Junior Ryan Riefenhauser grabbed seven boards with four steals as the Blue Knights controlled the glass, 33-27. Rochester hit 7-19 from the arc and 21-24 from the line, while holding Geneseo to 2-12 from long range and 14-21 from the charity stripe. Geneseo plays the RIT Tigers in the consolation bracket on Friday at St. John Fisher at 6 p.m.
