The St. John Fisher Cardinals held the Geneseo women's basketball team scoreless for six minutes in the second half, using a 6-0 run during the stretch to take a 45-36 lead on the way to a 51-45 victory in the consolation bracket of the Wendy's College Classic at St. John Fisher tonight. In the first half, Fisher hit a long range jumper to lead 24-7 with 6:08 to play, before Geneseo responded to cut the lead to 28-20 at the intermission as first year Shannon McGinnis scored eight points during the span. Senior Katelyn Charbonneau finished with nine points after scoring eight of the first 10 points of the second half to cut the lead to 31-30. Junior Melissa Graham hit a pair of free throws to cut the Fisher lead to 49-45 with 2:56 remaining in the game, but the Blue Knights did not score the rest of the way. McGinnis finished with 16 points on 5-12 from the floor, 3-4 from the arc and 3-6 from the line and sophomore Lea Sobieraski collected seven rebounds. Geneseo hit just 27% (13-49) from the field, 8-21 from the arc and 11-19 from the line with 27 turnovers, while the Cardinals made 7-15 from long range and 10-16 from the charity stripe. The Blue Knights fall to 2-2 on the year and take on Brockport in the seventh place game on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hobart College in Geneva, N.Y.
