Junior forward Ryan Riefenhauser hit 7-11 from the field and 5-8 from the line for a career-high 19 points with nine rebounds to lead the Geneseo men's basketball team to an 81-67 win over RIT in the consolation bracket at St. John Fisher tonight. The Blue Knights jumped out to a 13-3 lead early in the first half on the way to a 44-27 lead at intermission. Senior forward Abe Miller made 7-9 from the floor and 2-6 from the line for 16 points with five boards and first year guard James McKenna hit five of seven for the game, including all three shots from long range for 13 points. Geneseo moves to 1-4 on the season and plays St. John Fisher on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Roberts Wesleyan.
Men's Ice Hockey
Sophomore winger Rich Manley scored with 54 seconds left in the game to give the host Geneseo men's hockey team a dramatic 4-3 win over the Morrisville Mustangs tonight. On the game-winner, junior defenseman Blake O'Connor kept the puck in at the right point and fed sophomore winger Zachary Vit in the slot. Vit slid a pass left to Manley, who beat the Morrisville goalie low for his first goal of the season. Geneseo took a 2-0 lead after one period as sophomore Nick Ryan scored in front on assists by sophomore Carson Schell and first year Zack Cavallini at 12:48 and senior Stefan Decosse scored on a rebound with junior Corbin Rosmarin and sophomore Brandon Angotti getting the helpers at 18:45. Morrisville scored twice in the second period, despite being outshot by Geneseo in the frame, 15-6. Senior Clint Olson gave the Ice Knights a 3-2 lead with a power play goal at 10:46 of the third on assists by first year Peter Mott and senior Jimmy Powers, but Morrisville answered at 15:38 with a power play score of their own. Junior Adrian Rubeniuk made 18 saves to post the win in nets as the Ice Knights move to 5-5-0 overall and 4-4-0 in SUNYAC. Geneseo travels to Hobart College on Saturday.
