Sunday's Contest Summary

Women's Swimming & Diving

The Geneseo women's swimming and diving team traveled to the Ithaca Invitational on Friday through Sunday and finished in second place of nine teams with 1,316 points as Cornell University won the meet with 1,975 points. First year Abby Max had a spectacular meet for the Blue Wave as she won the 500 yard freestyle in a pool record time of 5:05.42, won the 200 freestyle in a pool record time of 1:54.87, placed second in the 100 backstroke in a school record and NCAA provisional time of 58.32 and finished third in the 200 back in 2:08.72. In addition, Max teamed with Lily Powell, Corinne Vairo and Elyssa Max to win the 800 free relay in a pool record time of 7:49.02, combined with Vairo, Haleigh Wixson and Elyssa Max to place second in the 400 free relay in 3:34.81, teamed with Kaitlin Wilcoxen, Powell and Elyssa Max for second place in the 400 medley relay in 3:57.46 and anchored Elyssa Max, Wixson and Vairo to a fourth place time of 1:39.12 in the 200 free relay. Powell won the 200 butterfly in a pool record time of 2:08.69 and finished fourth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:41.89, Wilcoxen touched fourth in both the 100 (1:06.94) and 200 (2:25.15) breaststroke events and Wixson finished fourth in the 100 back in 59.92. Geneseo is off for the semester and resumes their schedule on January 13-14 at New Paltz.

Men's Swimming & Diving

The Geneseo men's swimming and diving team participated in the Ithaca Invitational on Friday through Sunday and placed fifth of nine teams with 1,028.5 points as Cornell won the meet with 1,996 points. First year John Nasky provided the top finish for the Blue Wave as he was third in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 16:22.65 after placing seventh in the 500 free in 4:46.45. Senior Josh Kaplan was fourth in both the 100 (53.09) and 200 (1:58.06) backstroke events, first year Kenny Athans was fourth in the 400 IM (4:19.01), seventh in the 200 IM (2:00.30) and seventh in the 200 fly (2:01.89) and senior Ken Pink placed seventh in both the 400 IM (4:22.06) and the 200 breaststroke (2:15.83). Geneseo had two relays finish in fifth place as the 200 medley of Kaplan, CJ Schaub, Austin Brennan and Dan Strothenke finished in 1:37.09 and the 200 free relay of Aaron Wagner, Kaplan, Drew Rogers and Strothenke touched in 1:27.15. Geneseo is off for the semester and resumes their schedule on January 13-14 at New Paltz.
