Junior Melissa Graham scored six of her game-high 24 points and the Geneseo women's basketball team shutout the visiting Cortland Red Dragons (5-3/1-2 SUNYAC) in the overtime session to win by a score of 75-63. Cortland's Brittany Cohen hit a long range shot, the ninth of the game for the team, with 2:03 remaining to tie the game at 63 and neither team could score the rest of regulation. The game was full of runs by both teams as Cortland used a 10-0 run early to lead 14-6 before the Blue Knights answered with eight straight points by first year Cara Manfredi with a pair of three-pointers sandwiched around a pair of free throws. The game was tied seven times in the first half before the Red Dragons settled for a 31-30 lead. Geneseo's Katelyn Charbonneau scored six of her eight points on back-to-back three-pointers to open the second half as the Knights built a 46-37 lead with 13:11 to play. Cortland responded with a 13-4 run of their own to take a 53-50 lead on a three by Molly Byrne with 7:00 to play. Geneseo claimed a 63-60 lead on a three-pointer by Graham with 2:54 to go as the Blue Knights made 10-29 (34.5%) from long range. Senior Meghan Prue hit four of seven from the arc on her way to 15 points with seven rebounds, first year Shannon McGinnis scored 13 points on 6-12 shooting with six boards and senior Bri Dunton had seven caroms, six steals and five assists. The Blue Knights move to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in SUNYAC and travel to Plattsburgh on Friday.
The visiting Cortland Red Dragons scored eight straight points to take a 53-45 lead with 4:42 to play on their way to defeating the Geneseo men's basketball team, 64-51. Geneseo trailed 29-21 at the intermission, but capped a 7-0 run with a dunk and free throw by sophomore Jordan Jones with 10:07 left to tie the game at 45. Cortland shot 49% from the field (25-51) and benefitted from the Blue Knights hitting just 10 of 22 shots from the charity stripe. Juniors Jesse Winter and Brian Manning scored 15 points each to lead the Red Dragons. Senior Mike Hoy made 5-9 from the floor and 2-2 from the line on the way to 13 points to lead Geneseo, junior Ryan Riefenhauser added eight points and nine rebounds and sophomore Connor Fedge hit three of four shots on his way to seven points. Geneseo falls to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in SUNYAC and travels to Plattsburgh on Friday.
