SUNY Geneseo field hockey All-American Michelle Milkovich '11 was named the winner of the SUNYAC Dr. Dolores Bogard Scholar-Athlete Award for 2010-11. Dr. Dolores Bogard was an administrator and coach at SUNY Cortland for over twenty years and the award is given annually to the female junior or senior with the best combination of athletic and academic ability amongst all sports at the 10 SUNYAC institutions.
Milkovich graduated from SUNY Geneseo in May of 2011 with a 3.59 grade point average as a major in business administration. Academically, she was named to the Dean's List seven times as well as the SUNYAC All Academic team and Commissioner's List. She is a member of Geneseo's Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Academic Squad and a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence. Milkovich has served as a religious education volunteer for sixth graders, worked as a statistician for the men's ice hockey program and monitored the special talent study hours within the department.
On the field, she is the most decorated and accomplished student-athlete to come through the Geneseo field hockey program. She is a four-time All-Region and All-SUNYAC selection earning conference Rookie of the Year (2007) and Player of the Year (2010). In 2010, she became the program's first-ever NFHCA All-American, earning second team honors. Milkovich holds the school record for career points, career assists, single season points and single season assists. She led Geneseo to a program best 18-2 record in 2010 and first-ever SUNYAC Championship. The Knights earned the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament and a final national ranking of 17.
Milkovich is the eighth Geneseo recipient of this award and fourth in the last five years, joining Sue Lind (1986-87, Basketball), Keena Bush (1995-96, Track & Field), Megan Mackey (1996-97, Basketball), Melissa White (2001-02, Cross Country, Track), Christy Finke (2006-07, Cross Country, Track), Liz Montgomery (2008-09, Cross Country, Track) and Sandra Goettelman (2009-10, Cross Country, Track).
