Men's Ice Hockey

Sophomore Zachary Vit scored a goal and two assists, while juniors Kaz Iwamoto and Colin de Jersey had a goal and an assist each to lead the Geneseo men's hockey team to a 7-4 win over visiting Salve Regina tonight. Geneseo took a 2-0 lead after one period on goals by junior Ryan Bulach and Iwamoto in front of the net and extended their lead to 4-0 just 2:12 into the second frame as senior Stefan Decosse scored at the 57 second mark and Vit added the fourth goal on a pretty pass play from Iwamoto and senior Jimmy Powers. The Seahawks would come back to tie the game by the end of the second period as they scored a power play goal at the 7:01 mark and then netted three straight scores during a five-minute major extra man situation. In the third period, de Jersey scored at the 1:14 mark on a wrist shot from the top of the left circle, sophomore Rich Manley added a goal in the crease at 9:09 and junior Corbin Rosmarin won a faceoff and scored through the five-hole at 14:47 for an unassisted tally. First year Bryan Haude made 23 saves in posting the win in nets as the Ice Knights even their record at 6-6-0. Geneseo travels to Elmira on Saturday.

Men's Basketball

Senior Mike Hoy went 4-7 from the field, 1-3 from the arc and 5-8 from the line for 14 points with six assists to lead the visiting Geneseo men's basketball team to an 84-63 win over Plattsburgh tonight. The Blue Knights used a 10-0 run to take a 14-4 lead early in the game and used a 12-4 run to extend the advantage to 26-8 on their way to a 40-25 lead at intermission. Junior Ryan Riefenhauser made five of seven shots from the floor and three of four from the line for 13 points and sophomore Connor Fedge hit 3-5 and 5-8 from the stripe for 11 points with four rebounds and three assists. Senior Abe Miller, sophomore Jordan Jones and first year James McKenna each netted nine points, with the latter grabbing a team-high seven rebounds. The Blue Knights shot a blistering 27-51 (53%) from the field, 5-12 (42%) from the arc and 25-35 (71%) from the line. Geneseo moves to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in SUNYAC play and travels to Potsdam on Saturday.

Women's Basketball

The host Plattsburgh Cardinals tripped the Geneseo women's basketball team tonight by a score of 75-71 in overtime. The Cardinals led 38-35 at the intermission, but Geneseo came back in the second half, eventually taking a 68-66 lead with 1:16 to play on a basket by junior Melissa Graham. Plattsburgh tied the game at 68 and then missed the front end of a one-and-one situation with three seconds left to send the game to overtime. In the extra session, Geneseo took a 69-68 lead on a Graham free throw with 2:35 to play, but Plattsburgh posted a 5-2 run to lead 73-71. Geneseo missed a pair of free throws with 13 seconds remaining and the Cardinals cashed two charity shots down the stretch. Graham led the Knights with 17 points and seven rebounds on 6-11 from the floor and 5-6 from the line. First year Katie Peterson made 6-11 from the field, 1-3 from the arc and all three foul shots for 16 points, senior Meg Prue hit 6-9, 2-4, 1-2 for 15 points with five boards and senior Bri Dunton grabbed six boards and dished out six helpers. Geneseo falls to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in SUNYAC play and travels to Potsdam on Saturday.
