The Geneseo women's basketball team snapped a 28-28 intermission tie with a 9-0 run to open the second half on their way to a 62-41 win over the visiting Alfred Saxons (7-3) tonight in the Carl Schrader Gymnasium. Geneseo led 28-15 with 3:08 remaining in the first half, but the Saxons responded after a timeout with a 13-0 run to close the half. In the second stanza, Alfred pulled within three at 37-34 with a 6-0 run, but the Blue Knights countered with 10 straight points to take command of the contest capped by a coast-to-coast layup by senior Bri Dunton. Geneseo's balanced attack saw senior Katelyn Charbonneau, sophomore Lea Sobieraski and first year Shannon McGinnis collect 11 points each as Charbonneau hit 4-8 from the floor and 3-3 from the line with seven rebounds, Sobieraski netted 4-6 from the field and 3-4 from the stripe and McGinnis hit 5-11 from the floor and 1-3 from the arc. First year Katie Peterson made 5-10 from the field for 10 points with a career-high eight rebounds, junior Melissa Graham combined four points, eight rebounds, six assists, three steals and three blocks and Dunton added eight points and six boards. Geneseo moves to 6-3 on the season and travels to Cortland on Saturday.
