The visiting Geneseo men's basketball team held the Oneonta Red Dragons to four points over the final 10:04 to capture a 61-51 win. Sophomore Matt Curry, Jordan Jones and Connor Fedge scored 10 points each in a balanced offense for Geneseo and sophomore Thomas Decker hit 3-4 from the field and 2-3 from the arc for eight points. Jones and junior Ryan Riefenhauser grabbed seven rebounds and Curry hit 4-5 from the floor and 2-2 from long range. In the first half, Curry's three gave Geneseo a 10-4 lead with 16:01 to play, but Oneonta recovered with an 8-0 run to take a 12-10 advantage. In a closely contested first half, the teams broke deadlocked at 30. In the second half, Geneseo led 48-47 before Curry capped a 10-0 run with a three-pointer for an 11-point lead. Geneseo moves to 7-8 overall and 5-3 in SUNYAC and travels to New Paltz on Saturday.
The host Oneonta Red Dragons (9-5/7-1 SUNYAC) scored seven straight points over 1:13 to take a 50-42 lead with 33 seconds remaining on the way to defeating the Geneseo women's basketball team, 53-48. Sophomore Lea Sobieraski led Geneseo with 13 points and seven rebounds on 5-8 from the floor and 3-5 from the line, while senior Bri Dunton and first year Shannon McGinnis netted nine points each. Geneseo forced 20 Oneonta turnovers, but committed 23 of their own. In a game of runs, the Blue Knights scored the final five points of the first half to trail 27-23 at intermission and notched the opening nine points of the second stanza to take a 32-27 lead with 15:59 to play on a layup by junior Melissa Graham. The Red Dragons went on a 16-1 run over the next 10 minutes to take a 43-33 lead, but Geneseo responded with nine straight points to pull within one at 43-42 with 1:46 to play on a Graham jumper. The Blue Knights fall to 10-5 overall and 5-3 in SUNYAC and travel to New Paltz on Saturday.
Men's Ice Hockey
The Buffalo State Bengals (9-7-2/5-3-1 SUNYAC) scored with 19 seconds left in overtime to capture a 4-3 victory over the visiting Geneseo Ice Knights and avenge an overtime loss by the same score at Geneseo on October 28. The Ice Knights held a 3-0 lead after sophomore Carson Schell scored on a tip-in of a shot by junior Colin de Jersey at the 5:56 mark of the second period. Buffalo State scored three times in the remainder of the second period, two coming via the power play to tie the game at three at the second intermission. With 58 seconds remaining in regulation, the Bengals took a 5-minute major and the Ice Knights were hit with a minor penalty. After playing the final 58 seconds of regulation and the first 1:02 of overtime in a four-on-four, Geneseo failed to capitalize on three minutes of power play time. Senior Jimmy Powers opened the scoring from Jack Caradonna and Zachary Vit at 8:38 of the first and Blake O'Connor gave Geneseo a 2-0 lead at 14:54 on a shot through the five-hole with Kaz Iwamoto getting the helper. Senior Cory Gershon made 30 saves in taking the hard-luck loss as Geneseo falls to 10-8-0 overall and 4-5-0 in SUNYAC. The Ice Knights travel to Fredonia on Saturday.
