Friday's Contest Summaries

Men's Ice Hockey

Senior Cory Gershon made 24 saves and junior Kaz Iwamoto got the eventual game-winner at 15:20 of the second period to lead the Geneseo men's ice hockey team past host Morrisville (4-19-1/3-11-1 SUNYAC) in their final regular season game. The Ice Knights got on the board just 1:45 into the contest when first year Justin Scharfe got his fourth of the season from sophomore Ryan Goldberg and senior Clint Olson. Morrisville tied the game at 15:33 of the first period, but Geneseo reclaimed the lead on the power play at 1:38 of the second when sophomore Carson Schell netted his eighth of the season from Zachary Vit and Olson. Senior David Arduin and junior Corbin Rosmarin got the helpers on Iwamoto's goal and the Ice Knights limited the Mustangs to an even strength goal at 12:21 of the third. Geneseo completes the regular season at 13-11-1 overall and 7-8-1 in SUNYAC and hosts Fredonia in the first round of the SUNYAC Playoff tournament on Wednesday, February 22 at 7 p.m.

Women's Basketball

Senior Katelyn Charbonneau hit 5-11 from the field and 2-4 from the arc for 12 points to lead the host Geneseo women's basketball team to a 58-40 won over the Potsdam Bears (5-19/3-14 SUNYAC). Senior Bri Dunton went 4-4 from the line on her way to 10 points, while junior Melissa Graham and sophomore Lea Sobieraski each scored eight points with five rebounds and five assists. First year Biz Reinhardt hit a pair of free throws with 2:38 to play in the first half to give the Blue Knights their largest lead of the opening stanza at 26-11 on their way to a 12-point lead at intermission. In the second half, Geneseo scored the opening 11 points to lead by 23 at 39-16 and cruised to the win. The Blue Knights move to 15-9 overall and 10-7 in SUNYAC and host the Plattsburgh Cardinals on Saturday at 2 p.m. in their final regular season game.

Men's Basketball

Sophomore Connor Fedge hit 7-7 from the field and 4-5 from the line for 18 points to lead the Geneseo men's basketball team past visiting Potsdam (5-19/3-14 SUNYAC) by a score of 74-51, giving Geneseo head coach Steve Minton his 200th career win. Minton collected 26 wins at Hiram College in Ohio and is 174-141 in 12 seasons at Geneseo. Junior Ryan Riefenhauser hit 7-10 from the floor for 14 points with six rebounds and five assists and sophomore Jordan Jones hit 3-3 from the field and all seven free throws for 13 points. Potsdam led 12-10 with 11:14 to play in the first half on a three-pointer by Curtis Pierce, who reached 1,000 career points in the contest, but Geneseo outscored the Bears by a 30-14 count the rest of the way, capped by a layup by Riefenhauser at the buzzer, for a 40-26 lead at intermission. In the second half, Geneseo opened with a 11-2 run to break the game open and coasted to the win. The Blue Knights move to 12-12 overall and 10-7 in SUNYAC and host Plattsburgh on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the regular season finale.

Men's Indoor Track and Field

The Geneseo men's indoor track and field team, ranked ninth in the latest USTFCCCA Division III poll, traveled to RIT for a non-scoring meet on Friday night. Geneseo's Chris Moore won the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:31.71 and Andrew Jehle won the 500 meters in an ECAC-qualifying time of 67.10 to highlight the performances. Senior Colin Keenan and Luke Tavern tied for third in the high jump with 1.83 meters, Ethan Koreff was fourth in the 5K in 16:08.64, senior Mark Streb placed fourth in the mile in 4:24.94 and senior Kevin Bronson ran fourth in the 1,000 meters in 2:35.72. Geneseo travels to Hobart and William Smith Colleges on Sunday, February 26 for the SUNYAC Championships.

Women's Indoor Track and Field

The Geneseo women's indoor track and field team traveled to RIT for a non-scoring meet on Friday and sophomore Mary Aldridge led a contingent of Knights by winning the mile run in an ECAC-qualifying time of 5:16.21. Junior Danae Polsin finished second in the event in 5:19.48, junior Brigid Heenan was fourth in 5:20.68 and first year Cassie Goodman placed fifth in 5:23.28. Junior Diahann Cuevo was second in the 60 meter dash in an ECAC-qualifying time of 8.07, while senior Kelly Brunscheen, first year Allison Hoh and first year Keira Wood finished third (60.97), fourth (61.12) and fifth (61.30), respectively, in the 400 meters. Junior Rachel Serpe was third in the pole vault with 3.05 meters, junior Esther Lok was third in the 3K in 11:04.16 and Molly Bennett finished third in the 5K with a time of 20:26.29. The Blue Knights participate in the SUNYAC Championships at Hobart and William Smith Colleges on Sunday, February 26.
