Sophomore Matt Curry scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half to lead four double-digit scorers as the Geneseo men's basketball team defeated visiting Plattsburgh (8-17/6-12 SUNYAC) by a score of 75-53. Senior Mike Hoy hit 6-10 from the floor for 12 points, junior Ryan Riefenhauser netted 12 points with six rebounds and first year Andy Drescher scored 11 points, all in the first half, on 4-4 from the field and 3-3 from the arc. Geneseo led 25-23 in the first half when Drescher hit a three-pointer, Hoy made a pair of layups and Drescher cashed two more from long range for a 13-0 run and a 15-point lead on the way to a 42-28 advantage at intermission. Curry scored all 11 of his second half points in the opening five minutes as Geneseo ran out to a 53-33 lead with 15:04 to play and the Blue Knights led by more than 20 the rest of the way. Geneseo moves to 13-12 overall and 11-7 in SUNYAC and the #3 seeded Blue Knights will host sixth-seeded Fredonia on Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the first round of the SUNYAC tournament.
Senior Meghan Prue scored a career-high 17 points on 5-8 from the field, 3-4 from the arc and 4-4 from the line in just 16 minutes played to lead the Geneseo women's basketball team to a 72-29 win over visiting Plattsburgh (10-14/7-11 SUNYAC). Sophomore Lea Sobieraski scored 11 points with 12 rebounds and first year Shannon McGinnis netted 11 points for the Blue Knights. Senior Bri Dunton added nine points and eight rebounds and senior Katelyn Charbonneau dished out six assists. Geneseo scored 10 straight points to take a 25-8 lead in the first half, extended to 33-11 at the half and never looked back shooting 46.4% (26-56) from the field, 56.3% (9-16) from the arc and hit all 11 free throws. The Blue Knights complete the regular season at 16-9 overall and 11-7 in SUNYAC and as the #4 seed, will host fifth-seeded Cortland in the first round of the SUNYAC tournament on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
