The women's softball team opened their season with a pair of losses in Clermont, Florida today as the Blue Knights dropped an 11-0 decision to Messiah and a 5-0 margin to Monmouth. In the opener, Messiah scored three runs in each of the first two innings and then erupted for five runs in the sixth. Geneseo managed just six hits with junior Jess Steubing going 2-2 on the game and senior Molly Walsh hitting 1-2 with a double. Junior Mary Bostwick started and allowed six runs, three earned on seven hits and four walks in three innings and Nicole Zimmerman allowed five runs, two earned on one hit and five walks in 2/3 inning. In the second game, Monmouth secured a 5-0 win with three runs in the third and two more in the fifth. Junior Lexi Williams went 2-3 with a double as the Blue Knights had just six hits for the second straight game. Junior Katie Gallagher allowed two runs on one hit and three walks in two innings, while Bostwick allowed five hits, three runs, one earned with five strikeouts in four innings of relief. Geneseo continues the spring trip on Tuesday with games against Keene St. and Salve Regina.
