The Geneseo women's softball team traveled to Plattsburgh this afternoon and split the doubleheader with the Cardinals, falling 5-4 in the opener and winning the second game, 8-1. In the opener, Geneseo took an early 4-1 lead as sophomore Sam Trapasso hit a two-run triple in the first inning, while senior KK Schaus had an RBI double and junior Stef Rosenberg had an RBI single in the third inning. Plattsburgh scored a lone run in the third and fourth innings to draw within 4-3 and then scored twice in the bottom of the seventh on a single and a pair of bunt singles, the last scoring both runs after a stolen base. Senior Kelsey Ogden was 3-4 with two runs from the leadoff spot and junior Mary Bostwick took the tough loss in the circle after allowing nine hits and two walks with six strikeouts. In the second game, Schaus was 1-3 with a solo homer and three runs scored and junior Jess Steubing went 3-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI to lead the offensive onslaught as the Blue Knights handed the Cardinals their second SUNYAC loss against eight wins. Trapasso finished 2-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI and Rosenberg went 2-4 with a run and an RBI. Junior Katie Gallagher got the win after allowing one run on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts, while Bostwick came on in relief and allowed one hit and one walk with one strikeout in four innings. Geneseo moves to 9-15 overall and 3-5 in SUNYAC and travels to Potsdam on Saturday.
