Geneseo's Chichester '10 Shines at Boston Marathon!

2012 Boston Marathon

Former Geneseo Blue Knight Tim Chichester '10 exploded onto the national running scene today by finishing the 2012 Boston Marathon in a time of 2:21.10, the second best finish by an American-born runner and 11th overall. Jason Hartmann of Colorado was fourth in 2:14.31.

"This is a great day for the SUNY Geneseo running program," head cross country coach Mike Woods '69 said. "I have never seen our team, alumni base and followers of the program so excited about a single event. Since Chi remains local and continues to occasionally train with our guys, the impact of this accomplishment is even more profound."

Chichester, a native of Mt. Morris, is a member of the SUNYAC Cross Country Hall of Fame and participated in four NCAA Division III Cross Country championships, helping the Blue Knights to finish 14th in 2006, 22nd in 2007, eighth in 2008 and a then program-best sixth in 2009. He finished second to seven-time All-American Lee Berube '12 at the 2009 Geneseo Cross Country Invitational and was third at the 2009 SUNYAC Cross Country Championships.

On the track, Chichester reached the NCAA Division III championships on two occasions, running the indoor 5,000 meters and the outdoor 10,000 meters in 2010. He won the SUNYAC Indoor 5,000 meter championship in 2010.

Chichester helped the Blue Knights to four SUNYAC team titles as Geneseo won in cross country in 2009, indoor track and field in 2010 and outdoor track and field in 2009 and 2010.

He is the son of Bill and Sue Chichester of Mt. Morris, N.Y.
