Gayvert Recognized with Chancellor's Award

SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence

Senior tennis player Katie Gayvert received the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence, the highest honor bestowed upon a SUNY student, at the annual awards ceremony in Albany on Thursday, April 5.

On the court, Gayvert is a two-time SUNYAC team champion (2008 and 2009) and won three individual SUNYAC titles at fifth singles in 2009 and third doubles in 2009 and 2010. This year, Gayvert has returned to the Blue Knights for the spring semester and will aid Geneseo in their appearance at the 2012 NCAA Division III championships in May.

A mathematics major, Gayvert took the fall 2011 semester off to concentrate on her senior academic commitments, including her senior project with Dr. Chris Leary of Mathematics and Dr. Gregg Hartvigsen of Biology.

A 2012 Geneseo Presidential Scholar with a 3.84 grade point average, Gayvert is the 19th student-athlete at Geneseo since 2001 to receive the honor and is one of just four SUNY Geneseo students to receive the 2012 award.

A newly selected member of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's largest and oldest honor society, Gayvert will attend Cornell University next year, seeking a Ph.D. in Computational Biology.
