Women's Softball
Junior Mary Bostwick scattered five hits and struck out three and the Geneseo women's softball team scored four unearned runs in the second inning on the way to a 5-0 victory over the visiting New Paltz Hawks (13-19/5-7 SUNYAC) in game one as the teams split a doubleheader today. In the opener, senior KK Schaus was 3-3 with a double, including an RBI single in the second inning to lead the Geneseo attack. Senior Kelsey Ogden was 2-3 and contributed an RBI single and junior Jane LePage smacked a two-run single in the second. In the second game, New Paltz scored two runs in the ninth inning to grab a 5-3 win after a controversial non-call. With one out and runners on first and third, a line drive that appeared to hit the runner advancing from first was called a hit. The game featured only four earned runs. Sophomore Elise Porreca went 3-3 with a double and a run to lead Geneseo's offense, sophomore Sam Trapasso was 2-4 with two doubles and an RBI and Ogden went 2-5 with a run scored. Junior Katie Gallagher started and allowed three unearned runs in 3 2/3 innings on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts and Bostwick took the loss after allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Geneseo is 13-17 overall and 6-6 in SUNYAC and hosts Oneonta on Saturday at 12 p.m.
