Select members of the Geneseo outdoor track and field team participated in the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday night, competing against some of the top Division I and Division II programs in the NCAA. Senior Eddie Novara posted the top finish for the Blue Knights as he ran a spectacular second place time of 29:32.75 in the 10,000 meters to shatter teammate Lee Berube's SUNYAC record of 29:48.95 set two weeks ago at the Bucknell Bison Open. The time is the second fastest of the 2012 NCAA Division III season as Division II UNC-Pembroke's Pardon Ndhlovu won the race. Berube finished 16th of 28 runners in the 5,000 meters, posting the fourth fastest time in Division III in the event and claiming a SUNYAC record of his own with a 14:21.53. Zachary Mayhew of Indiana University won the event. Junior Alex Brimstein ran the 12th fastest time in Division III with a 9:17.63 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as he finished 14th of 17 runners, while Indiana University's Andrew Poore won the race.
On the women's side, junior Marissa Liberati placed eighth of nine competitors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:49.48, which is the ninth fastest time in Division III. Hannah Davidson of Providence was the race winner. The 4X400 relay of senior Kelly Brunscheen, first year Allison Hoh, junior Cailin Kowalewski and first year Keira Wood placed 70th with a time of 4:00.16.
