The Geneseo women's softball team took over third place in the SUNYAC standings after a doubleheader sweep of the visiting Buffalo State Bengals (19-17/9-7 SUNYAC). In the opener, Geneseo scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on the way to a 4-2 win. First year Kayleigh Blersch and senior Molly Walsh went 2-3 with the former adding an RBI, while junior Jane LePage and sophomore Sam Trapasso each went 2-4 with an RBI. Junior Mary Bostwick scattered six hits and walked five with four strikeouts to record her 12th win against eight defeats. In game two, Geneseo broke up a scoreless tie in the fourth inning as junior Stef Rosenberg doubled to lead off and scored on a single by junior Lexi Williams. Buffalo State loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth inning and scored a run on a groundout before Walsh threw a runner out at second on a steal attempt and the inning ended tied at one after a groundout. In the bottom of the inning, Blersch, who finished 2-2, singled to open the inning, senior Kelsey Ogden singled up the middle and LePage drew a walk. Senior KK Schaus hit an RBI groundout to second for the winning run. Junior Katie Gallagher went six innings to gain the win in the circle, allowing five hits and two walks with two strikeouts and Bostwick picked up a save after allowing one hit in the seventh. Geneseo moves to 19-17 overall and 10-6 in SUNYAC and hosts Fredonia on Saturday at 12 p.m.
