2012 SUNYAC Softball Tournament

The third-seeded Geneseo women's softball team was bounced into the consolation bracket of the double elimination SUNYAC softball tournament after being held to three hits in a 9-0 loss in five innings to #2 seed Plattsburgh (29-8) this morning. The Cardinals broke open a scoreless game by plating five runs in the third inning and four runs in the fourth inning to advance to the winner's bracket final. Junior Mary Bostwick tossed 2 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs with two strikeouts in taking the loss. Junior Katie Gallagher gave up four runs on three hits and one walk with one strikeout in one inning and junior Alexa Salzman allowed two hits with one strikeout in 1/3 inning of relief duty.

In the consolation bracket game this afternoon, Brockport (27-14) eliminated the Blue Knights in a slugfest, 16-12, as the Golden Eagles scored six times in the top of the seventh inning to post a come-from-behind victory. Brockport took a 2-0 lead after one inning, but Geneseo scored three in the second and one run in the third to lead 4-2. The Golden Eagles posted four runs in the fourth for a 6-4 lead, but Geneseo countered with five runs in the bottom of the inning for a 9-6 advantage. Brockport plated four more runs in the fifth for a 10-9 lead, but Geneseo recovered again with three runs in the bottom for a 12-10 lead. The teams were scoreless in the sixth inning, setting the stage for the Brockport game-winning seventh.

Junior Lexi Williams went 1-2 with a two-run homer, senior KK Schaus was 2-4 with two runs and three RBI, senior Kelsey Ogden went 3-5 with two runs and an RBI and sophomore Sam Trapasso was 1-2 with two RBI. Bostwick started and allowed nine hits, 10 runs and three walks with two strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings, however, only two runs were earned as Geneseo committed six errors in the contest. Gallagher went 2 1/3 innings, allowing five hits, five runs, two earned with three walks and one strikeout, while Salzman tossed 1/3 inning and allowed one hit and one unearned run with two walks. Geneseo completes their season with a record of 22-19.
