The Geneseo men's soccer team took on host Penn St. Behrend in the consolation game of the Herb Lauffer Tournament this morning and the Lions captured a narrow 3-2 victory. Behrend opened the scoring at the 3:26 mark, but senior Alex Stephan notched his first goal of the season on a direct kick at 5:11. The game remained 1-1 until 73:36 when the Lions got the go-ahead goal. A flurry of activity marked the final minute as Behrend scored on a one-on-one with Geneseo goalie Nick Voggel for a 3-1 lead with 56 seconds remaining. A hard tackle with 44 ticks to go resulted in a red and two yellow cards for the Lions and a yellow caution for Geneseo. On the ensuing direct kick, junior Ryan Yurchak got his first of the year on a scramble in front to make it 3-2 with 38 seconds to play. Geneseo gained possession in the waning seconds but could not net the equalizer. The Blue Knights took 13 shots to 12 for the Lions and Voggel made two saves in the loss. Geneseo falls to 0-2-0 on the campaign and hosts Clarkson on Friday at 4 p.m.
