Men's Soccer

Nationally ninth-ranked St. Lawrence scored two goals in the first half and held off the host Geneseo men's soccer team this afternoon by a score of 3-1. The Saints scored at 10:51 on a through ball to the middle for a 10 yard shot and added a goal from six yards out on a cross after senior Nick Voggel made a save on an initial St. Lawrence attempt at 24:34. The game remained 2-0 until 70:48 when sophomore Jason Iannone found junior Ryan Yurchak at the top of the box on the left side and the striker's blast went inside the right post for a 2-1 game. St. Lawrence picked up their final score on a corner kick which deflected in off a Geneseo player for an own goal at 84:23. St. Lawrence controlled much of the contest, offering 17 shots to Geneseo's five and taking nine corners to two for the Blue Knights. Voggel finished with 10 saves in taking the loss as Geneseo falls to 1-3-0 on the season. The Blue Knights travel to Ithaca on Sunday, September 16.

Women's Soccer

The Rochester Yellowjackets scored on a corner kick in the waning moments of the first overtime to secure a 1-0 victory over the Geneseo women's soccer team at the Fredonia Classic this afternoon. Rochester scored as the corner kick curled directly into the net past the Blue Knight defenders. Geneseo outshot Rochester, 10-9, however the Yellowjackets had five corners to just two for the Blue Knights. Junior Julia Sanger made four saves in taking the loss as the Knights drop to 0-4-0 on the campaign. Geneseo hosts Nazareth on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Men's Cross Country

Senior Alex Brimstein turned in a 19th place time of 26:42 over 5.2 miles to lead the Geneseo men's cross country team to a sixth place team finish at Penn State's Harry Groves Invitational. Geneseo was the lone Division III participant in the meet and scored 157 points to finish behind champion Princeton's 25, Georgetown (57), Penn State (78), Navy (91) and St. Joseph's (114). Senior Tom Clark ran 27th in 26:52, sophomore Ryan Moynihan was 38th in 27:07, senior Chris Mateer finished 52nd in 27:32 and first year Brendan Wortner completed the scoring five with a 54th place time of 27:35. The top seven included junior Patrick Wortner, who was 55th in 27:35 and senior Chris Carter, who ran 56th in 27:37. Geneseo competes at the Rochester Invitational on Saturday.

Women's Cross Country

The Geneseo women's cross country team participated as the lone Division III institution at Penn State's Harry Groves Invitational today and finished in eighth place with 207 points. Penn State won the meet with 25 points, Princeton scored 52 and Navy was third with 97. West Virginia (104), Ohio University (108), Delaware (197) and Rutgers (206) finished ahead of the Blue Knights. Sophomore Cassie Goodman provided the top finish with a 22:33 over six kilometers for 29th place. Senior Danae Polsin was 44th in 23:04, senior Cailin Kowalewski placed 59th in 23:23, Rebekah Steinke was 61st in 23:25 and senior Emily Sullivan completed the scoring group at 63rd in 23:26. Geneseo's top seven included first year Ashton Hughes, who ran 64th in 23:26 and senior Esther Lok, who was 68th in 23:32. Geneseo travels to Rochester on Saturday.
