In a rematch of last season's SUNYAC championship battle, the host New Paltz Hawks avenged the loss by defeating the Geneseo women's tennis team by a narrow margin, 5-4. In the doubles action, New Paltz took a 2-1 lead as Geneseo could only muster an 8-6 win at third doubles by senior Sarah Shields and sophomore Amanda Rosati. Sophomores Dexuan and Minxuan Yuan lost a tough 9-7 decision at second doubles, while first year Mare Santos and senior Katie Talbot lost 8-4 at #1. In the singles, New Paltz carried the top half of the draw, while Geneseo dominated the bottom half. Rosati won fourth singles, 6-1, 6-4, Shields captured fifth singles, 6-4, 6-2 and sophomore Zakiyyah Abdus-Salaam won at #6, 5-7, 7-5 (10-3). Santos had the closest singles defeat at #1 singles, 6-3, 7-5, while Dexuan Yuan and Talbot fell at second and third singles, respectively. Geneseo falls to 3-1 on the season and travels to Oneonta on Saturday.
