Men's Cross Country
Senior Alex Brimstein ran 16th in a time of 25:50 over eight kilometers to lead the Geneseo men's cross country team, currently ranked #4 in the latest USTFCCCA Division III Coaches Poll, to a second place team finish at the Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational at Genesee Valley Park this afternoon. Geneseo scored 105 points to finish behind Division I Cornell's perfect score of 15 with 24 scoring teams. Senior Tom Clark ran 24th in 26:01, sophomore Cohen Miles-Rath was 31st in 26:07, senior Chris Mateer finished 32nd in 26:07 and sophomore Ryan Moynihan closed the scoring five with a 34th place time of 26:13. Junior Patrick Wortner was 45th in 26:23 and Liam Cody placed 51st in 26:28 to round out the top seven. The Blue Knights take next week off before hosting the Geneseo Invitational at Letchworth State Park on Saturday, September 29 at 11 a.m.
Women's Cross Country
The nationally fourth-ranked Geneseo women's cross country team participated at the Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational today and placed fifth of 23 teams with 185 points. Division I Cornell won the meet with a perfect score of 15 points, St. Lawrence was second with 75, Dickinson finished third with 115 and the hosts were fourth with 167. Sophomore Cassie Goodman led the way for Geneseo with a 42nd place time of 23:05. Geneseo's next six runners finished closely in a pack as senior Brigid Heenan was 55th in 23:25, junior Mary Aldridge was 56th, senior Danae Polsin was 57th and senior Cailin Kowalewski was 59th, all finishing in 23:27, first year Ashton Hughes placed 65th in 23:36 and junior Rebekah Steinke was 67th in 23:37. The Blue Knights host the Geneseo Invitational on September 29th at 11 a.m.
Senior Sarah Shields won all 12 games at fifth singles in a 6-0, 6-0 win and teamed with sophomore Amanda Rosati to win 8-2 at third doubles to pace the Geneseo women's tennis team to an 8-1 win over host Oneonta this afternoon. First year Mare Santos won 6-4, 7-5 at first singles and teamed with senior Katie Talbot to take first doubles, 8-4. Sophomore Dexuan Yuan won second singles, 6-0, 6-1 and teamed with Minxuan Yuan to take second doubles, 8-3. Talbot won third singles, 6-3, 6-2 and sophomore Zakiyyah Abdus-Salaam won sixth singles, 6-0, 6-0. Geneseo is 4-1 on the season and hosts Rochester on Thursday.
The Geneseo women's soccer team dominated play this afternoon with a 23-3 shot advantage, but settled for a 0-0 draw with host Lycoming. The Blue Knights added a 7-3 lead in corners but could not get a goal past the Warrior keeper. Geneseo junior Julia Sanger posted her first shutout of the season by making two saves as the Knights move to 0-5-1 on the year. Geneseo hosts Fredonia in their first SUNYAC contest on Friday at 4 p.m.
