The Geneseo men's soccer team scored a pair of first half goals en route to a 2-0 victory over the visiting New Paltz Hawks (5-4-1/1-2-0 SUNYAC). After the Hawks controlled play for much of the early part of the first half, Geneseo struck at 29:57 on a corner kick. Junior Pat Lynch sent the service into the scoring area and sophomore Richard Bellusci, who came off the bench minutes before, headed the shot inside the left post for a 1-0 lead. With under four minutes to play in the half, first year Jesse Levy was taken down in the penalty area and the Blue Knights were awarded a penalty kick. Senior Alex Stephan hit the penalty kick towards the left post and New Paltz goalie Andres Montoya made a diving tip that caused the shot to hit the post and ricochet back towards the middle. Sophomore Jason Falk was quickest to the rebound off the miss and deposited the ball into the open side of the net for the 2-0 lead at 41:44. Each team took 12 shots, but Geneseo got five on net, however senior Nick Voggel was needed for just one save in posting the shutout for the Blue Knights. Geneseo advances to 3-4-2 overall and 1-1-1 in SUNYAC and hosts Oneonta on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The visiting Geneseo women's soccer team held a 13-12 shot advantage, putting seven on goal to just four, however, the New Paltz Hawks (8-2-0/2-1-0 SUNYAC) scored at 58:36 on a header from a right wing cross to secure a 1-0 victory. New Paltz held a 6-3 mark in corner kicks. Junior Julia Sanger made three saves in taking the loss for the Blue Knights, who fall to 0-7-2 overall and 0-2-1 in SUNYAC. Geneseo travels to Oneonta on Saturday.
