Women's Field Hockey
Senior forward Chellie Johnson scored three goals to lead the visiting Geneseo women's field hockey team to a 5-1 victory over the Ithaca Bombers (7-10) this afternoon. Geneseo won for the sixth straight and 11th of the last 12 games to move their record to 12-4 on the season. Junior midfielder Katie Farley had a goal and an assist and junior defender Bridget McGovern netted the opening goal at 4:19 on a blast from the top of the circle on a penalty corner. Juniors Kayla DeAngelis, Alyssa Smith and Kerry Hosford added helpers for the Blue Knights. First year Dayna Mercer upped her record to 11-1 on the season by making three saves in the opening half as Geneseo took a 4-0 lead. Senior Caitlyn Dowell stopped five shots and allowed the lone goal with just 29 seconds remaining in playing the second half and McGovern added a defensive save to help keep Ithaca off the board. The Blue Knights travel to Skidmore on Saturday.
The host St. John Fisher Cardinals (10-5-1) scored 3:19 into the second overtime to secure a 1-0 win over the Geneseo men's soccer team tonight. The Cardinals held a 17-13 advantage in shots and a 6-3 lead in corner kick opportunities. Senior Nick Voggel made four saves in taking the loss as the Blue Knights fall to 6-9-2 on the season. Fifth seeded Geneseo travels to #4 Cortland for the first round of the SUNYAC tournament on Saturday.
