GENESEO, N.Y.
– The Geneseo men’s swimming & diving team (1-0) opened its season with a
160-134 win over visiting Fredonia (0-2) Saturday.
Three Blue Knights were double winners. Sophomore Kenny Athans (Victor/Victor) took first in the 200-yard butterfly
(2:03.55) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:24.52); sophomore John Nasky (Rochester/Brighton) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in
10:18.70 and placed first in the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.26); and first year Yonghoon Jun (Nanuet/Tappan Zee) finished
first in the 100-yard butterfly (53.81) and 50-yard freestyle (22.78).
Athans
and Jun also swam on Geneseo’s
winning 200-yard medley relay team, joining first year Kristian Tialios (Mount Tremper/Onteora) and senior Frank Schiappa (East Amherst/Canisius) to
post a first-place time of 1:38.96. Tialios
rounded out Geneseo’s individual winners, placing first in the 100-yard
backstroke in 55.98.
Geneseo recorded second-place finishes in nine events. Junior Paul Jennings (East Northport/Elwood-John
Glenn) took second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.82) and 200-yard
individual medley (2:08.25). Schiappa
touched second in the 100-yard freestyle (49.22).
In the 1,000-yard freestyle, sophomore Don
McLoughlin (Waccabuc/John Jay) was second in 10:45.57. Senior Austin
Brennan (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) placed second in the 200-yard
backstroke (2:05.42) and sophomore Bryan Schaub (Blauvelt/Tappan Zee)
finished second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:08.24. First years Ben
Greenspan (Williamsville/Williamsville South) and Justin Ongkingco
(Watertown/Watertown) recorded second-place finishes in the 500-yard
freestyle (5:08.78) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.25), respectively. Geneseo’s
200-yard freestyle relay team placed second in 1:29.31. Schiappa, Jun
and Athans swam that relay with first year Jordan Gay (Henrietta/Rush
Henrietta).
Geneseo hosts Cortland in a 1 p.m. meet next Saturday.
