GENESEO, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s swimming &
diving team (1-1) suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, dropping a 156-138
decision to visiting Cortland (1-1).
The Blue Knights recorded six first-place finishes. Senior Kaitlin Wilcoxen
(Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius) won two individual events and swam the
second leg on the victorious 400-yard medley relay. She finished first in the
100-yard breaststroke (1:09.37) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:32.65).
Sophomore Abby Max (New Hartford/New Hartford) won the 100-yard
backstroke in 1:01.13. First year Hailey Modelewski (Northport/Northport)
took first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.09) and sophomore Haleigh Wixson
(Montour Falls/Watkins Glen) placed first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:17.73).
All four swam on the 400-yard medley relay team that posted a winning time of
4:06.19.
Wixson was second in the 100-yard freestyle (55.87) and 100-yard
backstroke (1:01.65). Abby Max took second place in the 500-yard
freestyle (5:22.91). Geneseo recorded seven other second-place finishes, with sophomore
Eileen Goralski (Queensbury/Queensbury) taking second in the 100-yard
breaststroke (1:10.70) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:33.65). Senior Elyssa
Max (New Hartford/New Hartford) placed second in the 200-yard freestyle
(2:02.43), first year Jenna Gibbons (Staten Island/Staten Island Tech)
was second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:19.66) and first year Julie Holloway
(Pittsford/Rush-Henrietta) took second in the 50-yard freestyle (25.50). Junior
Lauren Boyce (New Hartford/New Hartford) was second in the 200-yard
backstroke (2:18.01) and junior Emily Wanamaker (Camillus/Christian Brothers Academy)
finished second in the 1-meter diving, with a score of 227.10.
Geneseo took second place in both relays; the 400-yard freestyle quartet of Holloway,
Wilcoxen and Elyssa and Abby Max posted a time of 3:43.87;
and the 400-yard medley unit of Boyce, Goralski, Holloway
and junior Molly Carney (Chenango Forks/Chenango Forks) finished in
4:13.14.
Geneseo travels to Clinton next Saturday to face Hartwick, Ithaca and host
Hamilton.
