Terre Haute, Ind. – The Geneseo men’s cross country team
placed 17th at Saturday’s NCAA Championships, paced by a 10th-place showing by
senior Alex Brimstein (Webster/Thomas).
Geneseo was making the program’s 10th straight appearance at nationals and has now
recorded nine top-20 finishes. The Blue Knights, who won the State University
of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title, earned their NCAA bid with a
second-place finish at last week’s NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship.
Brimstein, who was honored by the United States Track & Field and Cross
Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic Region Athlete of the Year at
Friday’s championships banquet, finished the 8,000-meter course in 24:47.7. He
earned all-America honors, awarded to the top 35 finishers in the 280-runner
field.
Brimstein is the program’s 13th all-American and recorded the sixth top-10
finish by a Geneseo runner.
Senior Tom Clark (Wantagh/Wantagh) was Geneseo’s second finisher, placing 55th in 25:20.6. Sophomore Ryan Moynihan (Geneseo/Geneseo) was 123rd in 25:51.7 and senior Tim Chambers (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) finished in 26:22.2, good for 203rd place.
Senior Chris Moore (Syracuse/Westhill) came in 207th with a time of 26:24.9, senior
Chris Mateer (Webster/Thomas) was 211th in 26:27.3 and senior Chris Carter
(Grand Island/Grand Island) posted a time of 26:45.3 to finish 234th.
