Wooster, Ohio – The Geneseo women’s basketball team (1-0) opened its season with a 75-43 thrashing of Westminster (Pa.) in the opening round of Wooster’s Nan Nichols Classic. The Blue Knights will face Franciscan (1-0) Sunday (pairings were predetermined).
Sophomore forward Shannon McGinnis (Walworth/Gananda) scored a career-high 23
points, making nine of her 11 shots from the floor. First year forward Allison
McKenna (Huntington/John Glenn) added 15 points and senior guard Melissa Graham
(Orchard Park/Mount Mercy) netted 13 off the bench.
The Blue Knights held the Giants (1-1) to just one basket over the game’s first 6:23 on their way to a 26-8 lead. Geneseo stretched its advantage to 21 points early in the second half and eventually led by as many as 37 points.
McGinnis pulled down a game-high seven rebounds as Geneseo dominated Westminster on the boards, outrebounding the Giants 46-26.
