Ithaca, N.Y. – The Geneseo men’s track & field team opened its indoor season Friday at the Cornell Relays. The Blue Knights recorded eight top-10 finishes at the non-scoring meet.
Junior Patrick Wortner (Dobbs Ferry/Dobbs Ferry), one of five Blue Knights to record a top-10 performance in the 5,000-meter run, had Geneseo’s highest individual finish; he was seventh in 15:49.81. Freshman Brendan Wortner (Dobbs Ferry/Dobbs Ferry) took eighth in 15:54 and sophomore Chaz Abad (East Setauket/Ward Melville) placed ninth in 15:57.94. Sophomore Kevin O’Connor (East Aurora/East Aurora) finished 17th (16:40.00) and senior Robert Harmon (Milford/Cooperstown) was 18th (16:41.63).
Sophomore Benjamin Schwartz (Cortlandt Manor/Hendrick Hudson) finished 15th in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:08.98 and junior Mike Mattiucci (Webster/Thomas) placed 20th in the 3,000-meter run (9:20.41).
Geneseo’s highest finish came in the 3,200-meter relay; Abad, senior Alex Brimstein (Webster/Thomas), sophomore Christian Igielinski (Perrysburg/Gowanda) and first year Chase Nackenson (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills East) came in sixth with an ECAC-qualifying time of 8:26.01. The Blue Knights placed 13th in the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 3:41.90.
