GENESEO, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s basketball team (9-3,
5-1 SUNYAC) won its third straight game Saturday, beating visiting Potsdam
(1-11, 0-6) 73-39 in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC)
action. With the victory, Geneseo remained a game behind unbeaten New Paltz in
the conference standings.
The win marked the sixth time this year the Knights have held an opponent under
45 points. They kept the Bears off the scoreboard for the first six minutes of
the second half and didn’t allow a Potsdam basket until 7:45 into the second
period.
First year guard Dana Cohan (Rochester/Greece Athena) led Geneseo with a
career-high 12 points. She added three assists and three steals. Sophomore
forwards Shannon McGinnis (Walworth/Gananda) and Katie Peterson (Ithaca/Ithaca)
both scored 10 points.
First year forward Vanessa Wyckoff (Levittown/MacArthur) recorded career-best
totals of eight points and six rebounds as 12 of Geneseo’s 13 players scored a
point. McGinnis pulled down 10 rebounds, helping the Knights – who rank seventh
nationally in rebounding margin – to a 48-23 advantage on the boards. Senior
Melissa Graham (Orchard Park/Mount Mercy Academy) pulled down nine rebounds and
added six points and two assists.
Geneseo shot 50 percent from the floor (16 of 32) while holding Potsdam to a
27.3 percent mark, including 20.6 shooting in the second half.
The Knights continue conference play Tuesday with a 6 p.m. game at Buffalo
State.
