Two Weekend Wins For Men's Swimming & Diving

Rochester, N.Y. – The Geneseo men’s swimming & diving team (4-4) posted a pair of wins in a weekend triangular meet against New Paltz (279-60) and host Rochester Institute of Technology (231-124).

The Knights recorded 15 first-place finishes with first year Kristian Tialios (Mount Tremper/Onteora) winning four individual events and swimming on two of Geneseo’s four victorious relays. Tialios won the 200- and 400-yard individual medley races with respective times of 2:01.71 and 4:26.94; placed first in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke (54.04 and 1:47.11) and swam the first leg on both the 400-yard medley relay team that posted a winning time of 3:41.99 and the 200-medley relay team that won in 1:35.73.

First year Yonghoon Jun (Nanuet/Tappan Zee) and senior Frank Schiappa (East Amherst/Canisius) were double winners as well. Jun took first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.47) and 100-yard butterfly (52.52). Schiappa swept the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events in 20.96 and 47.05, respectively. Both were members of the 400-yard freestyle relay, joining sophomore Kenny Athans (Victor/Victor) and first year Jordan Gay (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) to finish in 3:15.71.

Sophomore John Nasky (Rochester/Brighton) won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:50.83, senior Greg Marks (Phelps/Midlakes) was the winner in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.28) and sophomore Bryan Schaub (Blauvelt/Tappan Zee) took first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.04).

Athans, Gay and senior Austin Brennan (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) joined Tialios on the winning 400-yard medley relay team, with Tialios, Athens, Gay and Schiappa comprising the 200-medley relay quartet. Geneseo also won the 800-yard freestyle relay, with Nasky, Athans and first year Ben Greenspan (Williamsville/Williamsville South) finishing in 7:21.77.

The Knights return to action Sunday, hosting Monroe Community College.
