GENESEO,
N.Y. – The Geneseo men’s swimming & diving team (5-4) recorded nine
first-place finishes in a 146-69 win over visiting Monroe Community College
(4-1) Wednesday.
Junior Brandon Peifer (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) swept the diving events,
recording winning scores of 464.00 in the one-meter competition and 298.15 on
the three-meter board.
Sophomore Kenny Athans (Victor/Victor) and first year Yonghoon Jun (Nanuet/Tappan
Zee) both had a hand in three first-place finishes.
Athans won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:00.67 and Jun posted a winning time of 49.42
in the 100-yard freestyle. Both swam on Geneseo’s two victorious relay teams,
helping the 200-yard medley relay to a time of 1:41.96 and the 400-yard
freestyle relay quartet to a 3:16.44 performance.
Four other Knights were individual winners: senior Frank Schiappa (East
Amherst/Canisius) took first in the 50-yard freestyle (21.93), senior Austin
Brennan (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) won the 100-yard backstroke (56.67),first
year Kristian Tialios (Mount Tremper/Onteora) finished first in the 100-yard
butterfly (54.44) and first year Jordan Gay (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) placed
first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.67).
Brennan joined Athans, Jun and first year Justin Ongkingco (Watertown/Watertown)
to place first in the 200-yard medley relay.
First year Tyler Roth (Fredonia/St. Francis) rounded out the 400-yard freestyle
relay unit with Athans, Jun and Schiappa.
The Knights return to action Saturday, traveling to
Carnegie Mellon to face the host Tartans and Westminster.
