GENESEO, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s basketball team (11-4,
7-2 SUNYAC) moved into second place in the State University of New York
Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) standings with a 64-44 win over visiting Oswego
(12-3, 6-2 SUNYAC) Saturday. The Knights used a 20-0 run to take control
against the Lakers, who had entered the game in second place.
Geneseo broke a 17-all tie by scoring the last 18 points of the first half, then holding Oswego off the scoreboard for the first 1:55 of the second half. The Lakers went a total of 8:17 without scoring and were held to 29.2 shooting from the floor (19 of 65).
Senior guard Melissa Graham (Orchard Park/Mount Mercy) recorded her second double-double of the year, scoring a game-high 17 points and matching her season best with 13 rebounds. She also led Geneseo with three assists.
Sophomore forward Shannon McGinnis (Walworth/Gananda) also pulled down 13 rebounds as the Knights, who rank seventh nationally in rebound margin, posted a 54-28 advantage on the boards. Sophomore forward Katie Peterson (Ithaca/Ithaca) added 13 points off the bench.
Sophomore guard Cara Manfredi (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) scored eight points and first year forward Allison McKenna (Huntington/John Glenn) collected six points and six rebounds.
The Knights continue conference play Tuesday, hosting Fredonia at 6 p.m.
