Clinton, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s track & field team competed at Hamilton’s Continental Invitational Saturday. No team scores were kept.
The Knights recorded 18 top-10 finishes, highlighted by two runner-up showings. Junior Carrie Levinn (East Nassau/Averill Park) took second in the high jump with a mark of 1.53 meters (5-0 1/4). Rachel Serpe finished second in the pole vault, clearing 2.70 meters (8-10 1/4).
Danae Polsin (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) recorded Geneseo’s top track performance,
taking third in the mile run (5:27.32).
Danelle Turney was fourth in the shot put (10.54 meters/34-7) and ninth in the 20-pound weight throw (12.71 meters/41-8 1/2). Sophomore Elyssa Slawinski (East Northport/Northport) joined her in the top 10 in both events; she was fourth in the weight throw (12.71 meters/41-8 1/2) and sixth in the shot put (9.47 meters/31-1).
Levinn was joined by three teammates in the top 10 in the high jump. First year Claire Triller (Glenmont/Academy of the Holy Names) cleared 1.43 meters (4-8 1/4) to take fourth, Carly Biondi finished sixth with a mark of 1.38 meters (4-6 1/4) and senior Shannon King was seventh (1.38 meters/4-6 1/4).
Sophomore Melissa Lam (Syosset/Syosset) recorded a performance of 4.24 meters (13-11) in the long jump, good for fourth place. She was joined by first year Kelly Preston (Round Lake/Shenendehowa), eighth with a distance of 4.20 meters (13-9 1/2) and sophomore Stephanie DeRue (Spencerport/Spencerport), who was ninth with a mark of 4.08 meters/13-4 3/4). Preston and Lam tied for ninth in the pole vault; both recorded marks of 2.40 meters (7-10 1/2).
Sophomore Laura Szczesniak (Whitesboro/Whitesboro) placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run (19:33.78) and junior Towi Kuberka (Clarence/Clarence) finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (10.12).
First year Meghan Gallery (Mastic Beach/William Floyd) rounded out Geneseo’s top-10 finishers, coming in ninth in the shot put (8.85 meters/29-0 1/2).
Knights return to action Saturday, competing at the Brockport Invitational.
