GENESEO, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s basketball team (17-6)
wrapped up the non-league portion of its season with a 64-44 win over visiting
Keuka (18-3) Tuesday. Senior guard Melissa Graham (East Orchard/Mount Mercy)
became the program’s 12th 1,000-point scorer during the win.
Graham finished with 16 points, reaching the milestone on her last shot of the
night – a three-point basket with 1:26 remaining to close out the scoring. She led
Geneseo with 15 rebounds and four blocked shots, matching career highs in both
categories. The double-double was her fourth this season.
Two other Knights recorded double-doubles; first year forward Allison McKenna
(Huntington/John Glenn) scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds and
sophomore forward Shannon McGinnis (Walworth/Gananda) finished with 14 points
and 14 rebounds. Geneseo – who leads the nation in rebounding margin – posted a
57-28 advantage on the boards.
The Knights opened the game with a 15-2 run and never trailed. The Storm, whose
11-game winning streak was snapped with the loss, scored seven straight points
early in the second half to close to 36-30 but McGinnis and sophomore guard Biz
Reinhardt (Rochester/Hilton) scored on back-to-back possessions and the Knights
never trailed by less than 10 points the rest of the way.
Sophomore forward Katie Peterson (Ithaca/Ithaca) scored eight points and senior
forward Nyisha Lewis (Rochester/Mercy) pulled down six rebounds. McGinnis,
Graham and first year guard Dana Cohan (Rochester/Greece Athena) all collected
three assists.
The Knights play their final road game of the regular season Friday with a 6
p.m. contest at Fredonia.
