Women's Basketball Comes Back To Top Fredonia

Fredonia, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s basketball team (18-6, 13-4 SUNYAC) rallied for a 59-47 win at Fredonia Friday in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game.

The host Blue Devils, who led 22-21 at the half, opened the second period with a 14-8 spurt to open up a seven-point advantage (36-29 6:19 into the half) – their biggest lead of the night. The Knights chipped away with an 11-3 run, taking the lead for good on a lay-up by sophomore forward Shannon McGinnis (Walworth/Gananda) with 7:38 left.

McGinnis recorded her eighth double-double of the season, scoring 12 points and pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Cara Manfredi (South Glastonbury, Conn./South Glastonbury) led Geneseo with 16 points – one short of her career high – and matched a personal best with seven rebounds. The Knights, who lead Division III in rebounding margin, posted a 47-30 rebounding advantage.

First year forward Allison McKenna (Huntington/John Glenn) finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Senior guard Melissa Graham (Orchard Park/Mount Mercy) added eight rebounds and led the Knights with four assists.

The Knights close out the regular season Saturday, hosting Buffalo State in a 6 p.m. game. They’ll be the second seed in the upcoming SUNYAC Championship Tournament, taking on either the #3 or #6 seed in a semifinal game at New Paltz Friday, Feb. 22.
